Successful ASIS Tradeshow Wraps Up With Record Attendance

We’ve tried something new this year at ASIS. It’s been a complete team effort as I interviewed and recorded a handful of people associated with the security industry then posted the interview on the daily e-news and Web site.

This is exciting for me as the editor of Security Products to be able to bring you another angle of the exciting news that is announced during the tradeshow.

ASIS officials were expecting a record crowd, and they got it. The hope was that 25,000 people would attend, and by the end of the third day, that number was surpassed easily. More than 950 exhibitors jammed the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Here are some interesting facts from people I visited today. Supercircuits has launched a new premium product line called SC Platinum. The line entails the fourth generation of the company’s best selling PC33C CS-mount cameras, as well as a line of high-performance dome cameras.

We’re also going to post to our Web site, a White Paper sponsored by ASSA ABLOY, Axis Communications and Securitas Systems. The theme of the paper is the potential of using security systems for adding value to business and the similarities that it bears to the capacity that data warehouse and data mining offers.

Please watch our Web site for the study that was authored by Lund University, School of Economics and Management.

My visit with Stanley Security Solutions revealed the company is now offering a cylindrical mortise lock and series 10 and 14 function exit devices, which have been designed to accommodate emergency response predicaments with a classroom intruder feature.

Using the device, teachers can mechanically or electronically lock the exterior lever from the interior side of the door. This feature enables school staff to draw very little attention to the opening while quickly creating a substantial security barrier for students inside. It’s a very nice security solution.

Planning is already underway for ASIS 2008. It’s in Atlanta and before long we’ll be sending out updates on what people can expect. Hope your ASIS adventure was as interesting as mine.
