Rudy Giuliani To Be Keynote Speaker At 2008 ISC East

This year's ISC East will feature as its keynote speaker, Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of New York City and Republican candidate for president. His speech is entitled “Effective Crisis Management: A Commitment to Preparation.”

As former mayor, leading the largest city in the United States and one of the most powerful cities in the world, during an unimaginable crisis, has given Giuliani unique insight on the importance of leadership and crisis management preparedness, as well as a vast knowledge of New York City’s infrastructure and how it operates.

In recognition for his leadership and work following September 11, Giuliani was recognized as TIME Magazine's 2001 Person of the Year, received honorary knighthood from the Queen of England and received the Ronald Reagan Presidential Freedom Award, given to "those who have made monumental and lasting contributions to the cause of freedom."

As a transplanted New Yorker now living in Dallas for the past four years, as far as I'm concerned, this will be one of the highlights of the show. I'll never forget watching the thick black smoke pouring from the towers in the clear blue sky that day; hearing the chaos through a cell phone call with my mother while she ran through the streets from her downtown office, six short blocks from One World Trade Center; and watching those beloved towers crumble on live TV.

In place of those towers, Giuliani stood tall and strong for all of us on that dark day. He was the personification of leadership yet his unabashed tears reminded us how he was also just another heartbroken New Yorker. It will be an honor to hear him speak.
