JVC Firmware Upgrade Allows Multiple NVRs To Be Configured As Single System

JVC Professional Products, a division of JVC U.S.A., will demonstrate new Version 5.2 firmware, a free upgrade for its VR-N900U and VR-N1600U network video recorders, at ISC West Booth No. 10034. Among the new features is a master/slave configuration that allows multiple NVRs to be connected over the network in tandem without a PC.

The new master/slave configuration creates an integrated monitoring system that essentially expands an existing network without replacing equipment. Users can connect multiple JVC NVRs and share resources between them. For example, a camera connected to one NVR can be monitored through other NVRs -- or remote users can see images from multiple NVRs on one screen. The new configuration requires no additional software or camera licenses, and each NVR records images locally or to network attached storage.

For customers who use SNMP software to monitor network-attached devices, the JVC NVR firmware upgrade provides the tools to manage network traffic and device performance. Users can provide critical status of NVR recording, CPU operation, camera connection status, and more. In addition, JVC NVRs now support dynamic DNS (DDNS), which allows customers to use the host names rather than IP addresses to connect remotely.

Plus, a new HDD meter application allows users to check hard drive status and remaining space.

“This firmware upgrade provides an out-of-the-box enterprise solution for the entire installed base of JVC NVRs at no additional cost to our customers,” said Geoff Anderson, JVC marketing and brand manager for security products. “JVC continues to offer system upgrades with no hidden fees. Our license-free approach helps customers manage their budgets and drives down the total cost of ownership.”

JVC has also added several camera drivers, which simplifies network installation. The new firmware offers pre-installed drivers for JVC NV-X35U, VN-V685U, VN-V686B series, VN-V225 series, and VN-X235 series cameras, as well as Axis Communications AXIS 209FD network cameras. Hundreds of other cameras and network devices are easily integrated with the JVC system with a few mouse clicks. Menu navigation has also been improved for easier setup.

The VR-N1600U is a 16 camera NVR, while the VR-9000U supports nine cameras.

Milestone XProtect Enterprise is pre-installed on both models to provide advanced functionality, while basic operations are possible through an intuitive, VCR-like front panel or via optional keyboard and mouse. The all-in-one design provides viewing, recording, and playback for high reliability and easy maintenance.
