AS&E Earns First Latin American Order for Screening System
American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E), a worldwide supplier of X-ray detection solutions, has been awarded a multimillion dollar order from a Latin American country for a Z Portal® vehicle screening system. This Latin American country will deploy the system for customs applications to screen cars and trucks for explosive threats, drugs and other contraband.
“This order marks our first Z Portal system sold in Latin America, and the multi-view, drive-through system will be an ideal security tool for high-traffic areas,” said Anthony Fabiano, AS&E’s president and CEO. “The Z Portal system offers a proven high-throughput solution for customs officials to safely, efficiently, and effectively screen vehicles to find hidden threats and contraband.”
The screening system is available in two sizes – one for large trucks, buses, and cargo vehicles, and a smaller size for passenger vehicles. The system’s radiation dosage is safe for operators, drivers and the environment and falls well within standards set by The National Council on Radiation Protection and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. It also conforms to ANSI N43.17: Radiation Safety for Personnel Security Screening Systems Using X-Rays. For a comparison, one scan of the Z Portal system is equivalent to flying about 1 minute at altitude (approximately 30,000 feet) in an airplane.
