CertiPath Hires Judith Spencer as Policy Management Authority Chair

Credentialing authority CertiPath today announced that Judith Spencer, former co-chair of the Federal Identity, Credential, and Access Management Subcommittee for the U.S. General Services Administration, has joined the company as policy management authority chair. In this role, Spencer will set and maintain policies and drive consensus on a wide range of security issues affecting the CertiPath community.

Spencer spent the last 36 years working for the federal government, beginning her career in cryptographic equipment repair before moving to public key technology and identity management 12 years ago. Most recently, she was instrumental in aligning various agencies and organizations around unified logical and physical credentialing of federal employees as directed in Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, Policy for a Common Identification Standard for Federal Employees and Contractors (HSPD12), while also chairing the Federal PKI Policy Authority where she promoted interoperability of high assurance credentials.

"At CertiPath we are committed to providing the highest possible level of service for our customers," said Jeff Nigriny, the company’s CEO. "We achieve this by assembling the top talent in the identity and security industry. Judith Spencer has a phenomenal background in identity management and in creating federated trust frameworks. She is a welcome addition to our team."

CertiPath recently announced it was cross-certified to the U.S. Federal Bridge for Personal Identification Verification-Interoperability (PIV-I) level of assurance. PIV-I credentials, which allow non-Executive Branch federal employees and others to obtain a credential based on the same standards as the Federally issued credentials are expected to grow exponentially in the coming year.

"PIV-I represents a major breakthrough in identity management and access control," said Spencer. "I've seen the value of a strong identity credential from inside Washington, now I look forward to working with CertiPath to gain the same level of success for PIV-I."

Spencer rounds out a leadership team at CertiPath, that , in addition to Nigriny, includes  Steve Howard, CertiPath's vice president of credentials and a contributor to several industry standards; Scott Meyer, senior director of client services and Tina Davis, CFO.
