Mission 500 Issues Call to Action for Appalachian Service Trip

Security professionals are invited to join Mission 500’s Appalachian Service Trip – a service trip scheduled for October 26 – October 30, 2016, where volunteers will work with local stakeholders in Philippi, West Virginia to help  families in need. Last year’s participants did renovation work on a family’s dilapidated home and helped prepare another family for winter by installing insulation to keep out the cold.

“The effects of and challenges facing low income families is often felt most keenly by the children – and especially in Appalachian counties where a staggering 41.5% of residents fall below the poverty line,” said Jeff Eichenlaub, Director of Strategic Partnerships for Mission 500. “We are counting on the continued support and passion of the security community to respond to this call to action, and experience the joy and satisfaction that comes from helping others.”

Volunteers will be provided with lodging and meals, and will be paired with a project that best suits their skill sets. The cost for the five-day trip is $395 and there is no limit on the number of volunteers accepted.

Mr. Eichenlaub also notes that children (12 and up) are welcome, and encourages volunteers to consider this opportunity as a family learning and bonding experience.
