Visual Defence Introduces Mobile IP Storage Solution

Visual Defence Inc. recently announced it has completed the integration of its IP Mobile Digital Video Storage Solution (IP DVSSm) with its Virtual Matrix System (VMS) software module, creating a centrally managed environment for mobile storage devices. The solution is designed to create a durable and comprehensive video recording environment, allowing for decreased cabling costs and enhanced video management when compared to traditional stand-alone digital video recorders.

The IP DVSSm provides high-quality video for surveillance, liability management and event/emergency response within dynamic environments, increasing knowledge and efficiency dramatically for public transit systems, or any firm with a fleet of vehicles to monitor. The integration of the IP DVSSm with the VMS software module provides central station operators with enhanced video management capabilities including the ability to remotely protect and tag specific video for downloading.

Video recorded on vehicles can be downloaded by removing the hard drive, with a direct Ethernet connection or remotely over IP networks, such as Wi-Fi. Once downloaded into the central system, the video can be encrypted, or viewed and stored for investigative purposes. The VMS recognizes the source of downloaded video, including the specific camera number of a particular vehicle, making it very easy to manage a vast amount of video.

"Efficient use of video data has become an important part of both routine operations and a well-coordinated response to emergency situations in many kinds of transportation systems," said Anne MacFarland, director of data strategies and information solutions at The Clipper Group. "Real-time recording, quick downloads over IP networks, the ability to quickly and remotely isolate key portions of video, and encryption are all key parts of a system that can both capture what happened in a crisis and provide operational data for logistics optimization."

Featuring a front-locking panel that protects its internal electronics, the watertight and dustproof recorder is resistant to extreme vibration and temperatures and is ideally suited for use within trains and buses. Decreased cabling costs are realized by connecting IP cameras directly to the IP DVSSm using PoE, thereby eliminating the need to run separate camera and power connections. When VMS connectivity via a wireless network is available, the DVSSm can work live and enable central command to view each and every bus online. Additionally, a video metadata mechanism allows for integration of video with bus subsystems including scheduling and dispatch, GPS tracking and fare collection.

"Increasingly, top security personnel find it necessary to demonstrate significant ROI from security infrastructure installations," said Dagan Sadeh, CEO of Visual Defence. "Digital video management solutions like the DVSSm, with cost-saving PoE connections and applications beyond surveillance, provide transportation organizations with both the enhanced security and measurable ROI they require."

As a vehicle-mounted DVR with eight network ports, a removable hard drive, IP-61 compliancy and six PoE connections, IP DVSSm provides a flexible, expandable and centrally managed mobile recording solution. DVSSm is also available in an analog version.
