ONVIF Broadens Input, Expands Use Cases with New Collaborative Working Group

ONVIF® announced the formation of the ONVIF Use Case Working Group (WG), a new working group charged with developing real-world use cases in response to current market demand. These use cases will be used as input for ONVIF specifications, the development of future profiles and to assist updating and maintaining ONVIF’s technical roadmap.

The Use Case WG collaborates primarily with ONVIF members but can also interact with system integrators, system designers, ONVIF ecosystem stakeholders and others through meetings, workshops, tradeshows and conferences to gather feedback regarding current Profiles, future specifications and future Profile development. Participation in the working group is open to all ONVIF members at the full and contributing membership level or by invitation from the Use Case WG.

“The Use Case WG will act as an additional ‘ear to the industry’, and help ONVIF to gather input on what is currently happening in the market,” said Per Björkdahl, ONVIF Steering Committee Chair. “At the same time, the new group offers another avenue for members to participate in the development of specifications and Profiles. This can only benefit ONVIF and the integrity of our specifications.”

The use cases that the Use Case WG provides to the ONVIF Technical Committee are based on the working group’s communications with stakeholders and are used as input for future versions of ONVIF’s technical specifications and new Profiles. The Use Case WG also collaborates with the Technical Committee to update and maintain ONVIF’s technical roadmap.

Founded in 2008, ONVIF now consists of nearly 500 member companies in six continents and more than 5,500 Profile conformant products. With Profile S for streaming video; Profile G for recording and storage; Profile C for physical access control and the Release Candidates Profile A, for access control configuration, and Profile Q, for improved out-of-the-box functionality, ONVIF continues to work with its members to expand the number of IP interoperability solutions ONVIF conformant products can provide.
