Security is Driving Factor for Smart Home Adoption

Smart home products are quickly becoming the most popular home décor in modern homes and there is one major reason the average consumer is deciding to pick up these devices: Security.

A new survey from smart home providers August Home and Xfinity Home discovered that 63 percent of consumers cited home security as the biggest motivation to purchase a smart home device. 18 percent of the 1,300 respondents said they plan to buy a smart home product within the next year in order to reach a desired level of security.

Of those who chose security as their driving factor to smart home devices, 40 percent of them said a connected security camera would be their most likely smart home purchase. 26 percent mentioned a video doorbell, 19 percent said smart lights and another 13 percent showed interest in smart locks.

For now, researchers believe that smart home devices are stuck in between an early-adoption phase and the move to the mass-market adoption phase because home owners are slow to believe smart homes provide sound security. The survey found that 34 percent of people believed they felt safest with a dog in the house while 21 percent said motion sensors would give them a greater sense of security.

There is one thing you cannot deny, however. Smart homes are only going to become more popular and we will definitely see more revolutionary devices as the years go on.
