D.C. Police Chief Announces Retirement, Accepts Job with NFL

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier announced she will retire from the department after 26 years of service. Lanier will not end her career in security; however, she will join the National Football League as Senior Vice President of Security.

Lanier will officially retire next month according to a tweet on the department’s Twitter account.

Lanier has spent her entire law enforcement career with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. She spent 10 of her 26 years serving as the first female police chief for the department.

Lanier will begin her new position at the NFL in September.
