St. Jude Medical to Form Cybersecurity Board
Cybersecurity is a major threat to all industries, and while most organizations are doing what they can do thwart a cyber threat, the healthcare industry has started to fall behind. In an attempt to create a cybersecurity standard for medical devices, St. Jude Medical has announced the formation of a Cybersecurity Board.
The group, known as the Cyber Security Medical Advisory Board, will provide advice on cyber security standards for all medical devices. This comes just months after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found that a St. Jude heart device was riddled with defects that could lead to fatal cyber hacks.
“We take the cyber security of our devices very seriously and creating the Cyber Security Medical Advisory Board is one more demonstration of our ongoing commitment to advancing standards of patient care around the world without comprising safety and security,” St. Jude Chief Medical Officer Mark Carlson said in a statement.
The board’s members have yet to be finalized, but will work with technology experts at St. Jude Medical as well as external researchers to help “maintain and enhance cybersecurity and patient safety.”
