GovSec Expo & Conference – Day 1 Reflections
Today was day one of the GovSec conference and expo in Washington, D.C. and FEDagent was on-site with over one hundred other exhibitors and supporting organizations.
The GovSec event truly has something to offer for practically anyone in the broad public safety and law enforcement field, especially due to the co-location with two other expos: TREXPO and CPM East.
Altogether, participants were able to witness live demonstrations and hear spotlight sessions and special presentations, as well as diving into content-specific sessions on contingency/emergency planning and management (EPM), critical infrastructure protection, campus security and life safety, disaster response and recovery (DRR), law enforcement strategies and tactics, counter and anti-terrorism, cybercrime and cyberterrorism, cyber security, agency briefings and firearms forums.
Day 1 sessions of particular interest to FEDagent’s on-site team were the speech by former Obama National Security Advisor Thomas Donilon, a 3D printing demo, an overview session on terrorism, espionage and cyber espionage, demos involving K-9s for criminal apprehension and explosive detection, a session on public/private partnerships and the FBI on protecting critical infrastructure, a DHS panel on keeping people secure inside federal facilities, how to glean situational awareness and intelligence information from Twitter, and a discussion about how Edward Snowden changed the debate about national security.
Day 2 sessions we’re looking forward to include the keynote on the Boston Marathon bombing and the collaborative approach to catch a terrorist, and agency-led sessions on how DHS uses science and technology in preparedness, response and recovery, an ATF session on partnering with local law enforcement as the frontline against violent crime, and DHS led sessions on data security and how the SAFETY Act will affect public-private relationships.
FEDagent will provide continuing coverage from the second day’s events and sessions in this space.
