Repairman Allegedly Steals, Swallows Diamond Ring

A Chicago-area repairman has learned the hard way how to not conceal evidence.

Wilfredo Gonzalez allegedly thought he found an easy score while remodeling a couple’s house. After asking to use the bathroom, he lifted a diamond ring valued at $1,600 and slipped it in his shoe.

But his “perfect” plan quickly went awry.

The wife quickly discovered that the ring was missing, and the husband confronted Gonzalez.  He denied taking the ring. But a fight between the two men ensued, and in the chaos, Gonzales swallowed the ring whole.

After police arrived, Gonzales admitted to “concealing” the ring and was taken for an x-ray at a local hospital that quickly showed the property sitting in his stomach.

Once in jail, authorities exercised a little patience and the concealed ring reappeared in a few days.

Gonzalez will only be able to remodel a jail cell for the immediate future as he was charged with felony theft over the incident and faces three years in jail if convicted. He is being held on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court next week.

Let’s hope in the mean time the couple finds a really good ring cleaner.
