The Possibility of U.S. Drone Strikes

The Possibility of U.S. Drone Strikes

Holder’s letter, which was obtained by NBC News, does not completely rule out the possibility of drone strikes happening on U.S. soil, and that is a pretty scary thing to consider. Certain law enforcement agencies already have drones to use in criminal investigations, and that has raised privacy concerns for residents in those areas. But what about personal protection? Will the sight of drones begin to send panic amongst the public?

Holder’s letter also states the possibility of drone strikes as "entirely hypothetical, unlikely to occur and we hope no president will ever have to confront. … As a policy matter, moreover, we reject the use of military force where well-established law enforcement authorities in this country provide the best means for incapacitating a terrorist threat."

But with the addition of use in “extraordinary circumstances”, it makes me wonder why drones strikes can’t be completely ruled out. Do they think drones may need to be used as weapons on the near future?

Are you in favor of drone strikes on U.S. territory, as long as there is a terrorist threat on our soil? Or do you think that the use of drones in this way could cause too many innocent citizens to be harmed or even killed? How do you feel about drone strikes on foreign land?

I think we need to have a firm statement issued on what drones can and cannot be used for both in the U.S. and abroad.
