President Barack Obama and Mrs. Michelle Obama, President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, President Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Rosalyn Carter, and of course, President George H.W. and Mrs. Barbara Bush were all in attendance. The Speaker of the House, John Boehner and countless governors, senators and other U.S. political figures were also there for the dedication.

Government leaders from other countries, such as President Josè Marìa Aznar from Spain, Prime Minister and Mrs. Ehud Olmert from Israel, esident John Kufuor from Ghana, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi Italy, and others also came in to show their support. During the ceremony, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and President Obama gave short speeches in honor of Bush and the new library and museum. As each person shared their words of wisdom and reminisced about experiences with Bush, it became evident that the President George W. Bush was becoming emotional.

After Bush completed a speech of his own, those in attendance and watching from TV or computers could see tears in his eyes. He even shared a touching moment with his father and spoke about being a new grandfather. No matter how you felt about Bush while he served as President, it’s hard not to get a little emotional as a man’s legacy is recognized before his family, friends, colleagues, and well, the whole world.

And while I watched the dedication ceremony, I wondered about all the security that was there. Security agents you could see, and I’m sure there were even more you couldn’t see, especially with so many government leaders in one place. One thing is for sure, security had it covered today. The ceremony went off without a hitch, and the only tears that were shed were for goals accomplished, lives saved, and in celebration of one man’s journey during and after he served as U.S. President.
