Charles M. Hanson, Ph.D., has over 43 years of experience in electro-optics and thermal imaging. As a consultant, he provides expertise in electro-optics, infrared imaging and related technologies, including detailed analysis as well as high-level assessments and management of technology development, markets and strategy to the electro-optics and infrared industries as well as companies and government agencies who develop and/or use EO and IR technologies.

Prior to starting his consulting firm, Hanson held the position of Chief Technical Officer, Infrared Products at L-3 Communications where he was responsible for the development of uncooled thermal imaging technology, devices and systems. His extensive career span in thermal imaging includes Raytheon where he led Raytheon's uncooled IR detector development for manufacturing of uncooled IR detectors, and for the development and advancement of specific technologies; physicist at Texas Instruments responsible for the development of thermal imaging technology, components and systems, the modeling and analysis of uncooled IR detectors and systems, for development of new technologies, and for generation of R&D funding; and department manager at Varo for development of subsystems and technologies for thermal imaging systems. Hanson began his career in 1969 as a physicist at the U.S. Army Night Vision Laboratory where he led the development and production engineering of various night vision components and systems, including sensor systems for man-portable missiles, cryogenic and thermoelectric coolers, and LED displays. He started the Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS) program and was the first program manager for TWS. He holds 43 U.S. Patents, and earned his B.S. – Physics at Louisiana Tech University and his PhD. – Physics at Georgetown University. He is the former Chairman of MSS Passive Sensors, a member of the SPIE Infrared Technology and Applications Program Committee, author of numerous MSS and SPIE publications, and instructor for the SPIE and MSS course, Uncooled Thermal Imaging. Hanson is also a recognized Infrared Subject Matter Expert with Sensors Information Analysis Center (SENSIAC)
