Lessons Learned from Penn State
On Nov. 4, 2011, the Department of Education found that Penn State University lacked the administration capability to comply with the requirements of the Clery Act. The university delegated nearly all responsibility to the police department, while not providing the funding or training necessary to support the efforts of compliance. The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office brought charges against a football coach for his lewd behavior, the athletic director for failure to report allegations of crimes to the police. DOE initiated a review of campus crime program. They arrived on campus Nov. 28, 2011.
