AMAG Technology Awarded ISO 14001 Certification

AMAG Technology, a manufacturer of security management systems for the commercial and government markets, has been awarded ISO 14001 certification, the only environmental standard recognized worldwide.

Certification means that AMAG has achieved proficiency in developing a means to consistently monitor and control their significant environmental impacts including: recycling, saving paper, and using energy efficient light bulbs, among other energy saving efforts that are required by all staff. The ISO 14001 Standard, created by the International Organization for Standardization, is an internationally accepted measurement for environmental management systems.

AMAG’s accreditation follows G4Tec’s, AMAG’s parent company and the first security manufacturer to receive certification, by demonstrating an innovative and forward thinking approach to the management of their environmental risks, both now and in the future. AMAG will identify and control the environmental impact of its activities, products or services and continually improve its environmental performance.

“AMAG is at the forefront of environmental sustainability,” said AMAG Technology President, Bob Sawyer. “The ISO 14001 certification helped us develop a clear environmental commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle waste, and preserve energy to reflect the investment and commitment of AMAG Technology.”

The ISO 14001 guidelines were introduced in response to a growing customer demand, as purchasing decisions are now being influenced with the Environment in mind. Selecting a supplier with ISO 14001 will have a considerable influence on the indirect effects that any organization has on the environment. Selecting a supplier with ISO 14001 will provide a number of benefits to the customer and will ensure that the size of their environmental footprint is reduced. Moving forward, companies will need to demonstrate that environmental performance has been taken into account when suppliers are selected.

In addition to being ISO 14001 certified, products manufactured after January 1, 2008 are compliant to ROHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive. AMAG also meets its obligations towards E-Waste.

AMAG received its certification from BSI Management Systems of Reston, Va.

A designated team of Environmental Champions, the Green Team, is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Environmental Management System specification and reviewing a wide range of environmental impacts. The team has also delivered extensive environmental training to every employee at AMAG Technology.

The BSI Assessment report highlights the effort being made by the Green Team, in driving the environmental improvement meetings with suggestions from all areas of the company. The report concluded that AMAG is very committed to reducing environmental impact and states that the extent in which AMAG recycles waste is at an extremely high level.

  • The Evolution of IP Camera Intelligence

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. The first network camera, launched in 1996, delivered one frame every 17 seconds—not impressive by today’s standards, but groundbreaking at the time. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
