HID Global Expands Presence and Portfolio in RFID Market

HID Global of Irvine, Calif., has expanded its presence in the North American RFID market with key recent additions to its product portfolio and the appointment of David Chose.

“HID Global’s industry and logistics business is an RFID leader throughout Europe, and now we are extending our business to the North American market for RFID tags that support asset-tracking, process automation, medical processes, waste management and identification of returnable transport items, laundry, livestock and pets,” said Marie-Francoise Glotz, vice president of Industry and Logistics at HID Global. “With our recent portfolio additions and David’s appointment as North American sales manager, we are well positioned to execute on significant growth initiatives in this large and growing region.”

Chose has more than 10 years of sales, business development, and system implementation experience in the RFID industry at companies including Omron, CCL Label and Texas Instruments. His experience spans low-frequency, high-frequency and ultra-high-frequency RFID technologies, and includes the development and implementation of various RFID asset-tracking solutions for medical, laundry, waste management, industrial automation, logistics and security applications. He received his bachelor’s of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington.

HID Global recently extended its product portfolio of RFID tags for a broad spectrum of industries and applications, adding several solutions that feature a broadband Self Resonance Frequency (SRF) from 860 to 960 MHz that specifically supports North American frequency requirements.

Research firm IDTechEx said in its July report, "RFID Forecasts, Players & Opportunities 2011-2021," that 43 percent of the 2.31 billion RFID tags shipped during 2010 will be sold and used in North America. The firm said it expects the value of the entire RFID market to reach $5.63 billion during 2010, up from $5.03 billion in 2009. This includes tags, readers and software/services for RFID cards, labels, fobs and all other form factors.
