Dutch Import/Export Business Deploys IQinVision Megapixel Cameras

IQinVision recently announced that Hillfresh, a major Dutch fruit and vegetable distributor, has deployed IQinVision HD megapixel camera technology to improve security and operations at its Barendrecht facility in the Netherlands. GP Installaties is the project integrator and Xserius is the value-added distributer for this installation.

Hillfresh’s 11,500 square meter (123,785 sq ft.) facility handles 21,000 pallets on an annual basis in conducting its global business of importing and exporting fruits and vegetables. The company decided to implement video surveillance to address a number of business challenges:  to stop truck drivers sleeping on the job, more effectively manage trucks entering and exiting  the docking stations, ensure staff are staying on the job, and to prevent abuse of parking spaces.

In consultation with GP Installaties, Hillfresh decided to deploy 21 IQeye HD megapixel cameras (out of 52 cameras total) in multiple key strategic locations where high-quality images are essential. Hillfresh chose IQinVision technology based on the IQeye camera’s light sensitivity, PoE capability, and image quality.

System installation was completed in early 2010 and features Mirasys Video Management software. The video surveillance system provides 100 percent coverage of the Hillfresh property, face recognition capability at warehouse entrance points, and the ability to read and record license plates of all vehicles entering the premises.

Hillfresh has five employee administrators monitoring the grounds from the five available Mirasys workstations. In addition to monitoring day-to-day logistical operations and suspicious activities, Hillfresh administrators are also responsible for responding to intercom prompts. When a user pushes a button on one of the five intercoms on the grounds, an image pops up on each administrator video screen, and the security system requires a timely response to the intercom query.

To date, Hillfresh has been quite satisfied with their image quality and the overall systems reliability and stability.

“Hillfresh had both security and operational goals when they went shopping for a video surveillance system,” said Ramon Grado, EMEA Managing Director for IQinVision. “Our IQeye image quality and reliability has been essential to Hillfresh achieving their goals in terms of facial recognition, license plate recording, and proper intercom responses.”
