Samsung Enters Physical Access Control Market With Partnership

Samsung Techwin America, a supplier of video surveillance product, is entering the physical access control market through a new partnership with S2.

“Pronto,” a web-browser based access control system from S2, combined with Samsung’s full line of NVRs, smart card, keypad and biometric reader combinations, allows Samsung to offer a complete and fully integrated access control/video surveillance system.

Samsung’s newest access control solutions include:

Pronto from S2 Security: The latest offering from access control market leader S2 is designed specifically for ease of installation and ease of use. By using an embedded web server, all user interaction with the system can be performed with a simple web browser from anywhere on the network. Simply install on the same network as a Samsung NVR, and users can operate small to medium (1–32 doors) fully integrated access control and video surveillance system.

Readers: A full array of Wiegand compatible readers that require 1, 2 or even 3 forms of credential verification offer varying levels of security to suit any application. New products include the SSA-R2010 series of fingerprint recognition and proximity/smart card readers and the new SSA-R2000V vandal-resistant proximity/smart card and PIN reader. All card readers provide Wiegand output format (either 24 or 36 bit) and include external LED control, external buzzer control, reverse polarity protection, and LED indicator and beeper. Many models are solid epoxy potted and weatherproof (IP66-rated).

Standalone Controllers: For basic applications, a simpler option is the SSA-Sxxx series of single-door access control systems. These self-contained readers/controllers are a nice alternative when only a single door needs to be secured, yet still offer a high level of secured access. Proximity/Smart card, PIN Access, and even biometric (fingerprint) versions are available that provide direct control of a single door lock for up to 512 users.

“Our new access control products are an exciting addition to the Samsung product line for integrators and users,” said Samsung Senior Product Manager Michael Bolotine. “The breadth of this line, thanks in no small part to our newly formed partnership with S2, provides a cost effective integrated video/access system. In addition, this new Access Control line reflects Samsung’s commitment to high-technology product development and the recognition of that commitment in others.”

“Our S2 Pronto product with its ‘5-minute setup’ sets a new standard for ease of installation and usability,” said R. Todd Smith, Vice President Worldwide Sales, S2 Security. “It is now possible for small and mid-size organizations to own to a 100 percent browser-based, integrated physical security system without advanced network knowledge or special training.”

Snap One has announced its popular Luma x20 family of surveillance products now offers even greater security and privacy for home and business owners across the globe by giving them full control over integrators’ system access to view live and recorded video. According to Snap One Product Manager Derek Webb, the new “customer handoff” feature provides enhanced user control after initial installation, allowing the owners to have total privacy while also making it easy to reinstate integrator access when maintenance or assistance is required. This new feature is now available to all Luma x20 users globally. “The Luma x20 family of surveillance solutions provides excellent image and audio capture, and with the new customer handoff feature, it now offers absolute privacy for camera feeds and recordings,” Webb said. “With notifications and integrator access controlled through the powerful OvrC remote system management platform, it’s easy for integrators to give their clients full control of their footage and then to get temporary access from the client for any troubleshooting needs.”
