Verayo Names Dr. David M’Raihi as Chief Technology Officer

Verayo, a security and authentication solutions provider, announced that Dr. David M’Raihi has been named as chief technology officer and VP of engineering. With 20 years of experience and expertise in security, authentication and strategic technological development, M’Raihi is well-suited to advance the application of Verayo’s Physical Unclonable Functions (PUF) technology into mobile and other connected devices. Dr. Srini Devadas, the previous CTO and the lead inventor of the PUF technology at MIT, will continue leading the advancement of core PUF technology as the new chief scientist at Verayo.

Before joining Verayo, M’Raihi was analyst and architect of digital content distribution at Apple, focusing on secure implementations across Apple’s software and hardware platforms. M’Raihi has also held senior executive positions at VeriSign as principal analyst of corporate strategy and led authentication research as principal scientist of VeriSign Security Services. While at Arxan Technologies Inc., he was vice president of technology and CTO as well as co-founder of Arxan Labs. He also spent more than 10 years at Gemalto first as a founding member of the crypto team and then as director of technology of corporate development.

“The strength and uniqueness of Verayo’s PUF technology combined with the numerous potential applications, particularly in mobile and connected devices, made joining the company a very enticing opportunity,” M’Raihi said. “As we enter a new era of smartphones and connected devices, we are in an opportune time to set the standard and build a strong foundation in security. Building a high level of trust will help enable the rapid consumer adoption of mobile payments, NFC and mobile marketing applications. I’m excited to help expand Verayo’s PUF-based security solutions into mobile and other connected devices.”

“I’m pleased to have Dr. M’Raihi become a part of our team. Mobile and connected devices are already playing an important role in our lives today. David brings in the experience and know-how to architect secure and robust solutions for mobile and other connected devices, based on Verayo’s unique technology,” said Eric Duprat, CEO at Verayo.

Verayo’s patented PUF technology harnesses the random, unavoidable and unpredictable variations in the IC fabrication process to reliably generate chip-unique characteristics – the “silicon DNA.” The “silicon DNA” is then used to authenticate silicon devices, generate dynamic, volatile secret keys for cryptographic applications. Since it is effectively impossible to control, modify, model or replicate the manufacturing process variation, the chip-unique silicon characteristics are effectively unclonable, and provide a very strong and robust foundation to build authentication and security solutions.
