Las Vegas Store Secure with Moonblink

One retail store on the Las Vegas Strip now has a higher level of security thanks to Moonblink Communications.

Moonblink Communications, provider of wireless and video surveillance solutions, recently announced its Video Surveillance-as-a-Service (VSaaS) offering to secure a retail store located on the Las Vegas Strip. Moonblink was selected by Top Speed Internet Service, the retail location’s service provider, because Moonblink’s VSaaS service – powered by EMC and Axis Communications – offers better security, greater ease of use and lower cost of deployment than building its own hosted infrastructure.

“When our customer approached us and asked for a video surveillance solution, we originally evaluated the cost of building out our own hosted surveillance infrastructure – but found that approach to be far too costly,” said Nick Utiger, partner at Top Speed Internet Service. “Not only is Moonblink’s VSaaS solution more secure, but we were able to get it up and running in no time, and for a fraction of the cost – enabling us to provide a better service to the customer at a lower cost.”

Top Speed needed a solution that could be installed quickly, reduce the cost of deployment and would allow them to monitor the surveillance footage remotely. Not only does Moonblink’s VSaaS offering enable simple remote monitoring from any location via any Internet connected device, but it reduces the upfront hardware investment as well as the ongoing maintenance and management costs – giving Top Speed an ideal solution for deploying IP-based video surveillance cost effectively.

“I could not be more impressed with the service we’ve received from Moonblink throughout the deployment, and how smoothly everything has gone,” said Utiger. “The system performs better than expected, and moving forward, Top Speed will be using VSaaS exclusively for all future video surveillance deployments.”

Moonblink’s VSaaS offering bundles Moonblink’s years of video surveillance planning and deployment expertise, which resellers can leverage when planning surveillance networks, with EMC’s information infrastructure expertise, which gives resellers and customers the peace of mind of knowing their critical surveillance footage is safe and secure.  By utilizing Axis network surveillance cameras and encoders onsite and EMC Storage at the data center, resellers can offer the Moonblink VSaaS bundle to customers at a fraction of the standard DVR/NVR deployment costs. The solution is truly plug and play – simply connect a camera or encoder to the Internet, enter the device’s serial number into the software management system, and you’re up and running. Footage is stored remotely and that footage becomes fully accessible from anywhere via any Web browser.

There are four tiers of pricing for the Moonblink VSaaS bundle, which are based on how much data is to be stored, the resolution needed, frames per second, and the number of days footage needs to be stored.

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
