Columnist Says Those with Footage Have the Power

Columnist Says Those with Footage Have the PowerA columnist for Vox has claimed that those with security camera footage have a ton of power and therefore a ton of responsibility. Since the second Ray Rice video emerged online, there was a public outcry that led to the Ravens releasing him and the NFL banning him for life.

Dara Lind draws a comparison between this case and that of Donald Sterling, the former Clippers owner who was forced to sell the team after audio recordings of racist statements were leaked to the public. Once private incidents become public, a groundswell of change is now possible.

The first video was released in February, and no one is certain who leaked either video. TMZ first made the video public.

In February the incident led to Ray Rice’s arrest for domestic violence, when he was then assigned to a pre-trial diversion program rather than being charge. The NFL suspended him two games. That suspension led to harsh criticism and the NFL has since changed their domestic violence policy.
