Statue of Liberty Evacuated

The Statue of Liberty was evacuated Friday due to a security concern

The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island were evacuated Friday afternoon due to reports of a suspicious package, law enforcement officials said.

 

According to reports, the evacuation of the monument came shortly before 1 p.m. Officials with the National Parks Service are conducting a sweep of Liberty Island and the New York City Police Department has sent a bomb squad to the scene.
