India and Pakistan Join Expanding Security Organization

The organization is led by Russia and China

According to a report, India and Pakistan will join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization; a group controlled by Russia and China and includes other nations from Central Asia.

By joining this group, India will potentially have greater access to the energy resources of Central Asia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sees the organization as a way to balance Western alliances, and has called for greater cooperation in fighting drug trafficking from Afghanistan as well as the financing of terrorism.
