Border Patrol Scores in Marijuana Bust

Border Patrol Scores in Marijuana Bust

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Sector seized more than 1,400 pounds of marijuana Monday. A joint operation between agents from Air and Marine Operations and Border Patrol also from the Rio Grande Valley led to the confiscation more than 685 pounds of marijuana and the seizure of an SUV Oct. 4.

The seizure occurred when Border Patrol agents assigned to the Harlingen Station noticed a black Chevrolet Suburban traveling toward the Rio Grande just east of Los Indios. A few minutes later, agents saw the Suburban traveling north. As the agents neared the area, two people abandoned the marijuana-laden vehicle near the river and fled to Mexico.

A total of 13 bundles of marijuana, with a value of more than $1.1 million, were seized and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The vehicle was seized by Border Patrol.
