Suspect Captured: 2 Iowa Police Officers Killed in Ambush Attacks

[UPDATE: Nov. 2, 2016, 9:30 a.m.]

A spokesperson for the Iowa police has said the suspect involved in the ambush-style shootings of two police officers is in custody.

Now more information has been released as of this morning, but police are investigating videos of Greene who recorded himself being removed from the Urbandale High School football field after carrying in a confederate flag.

Original story posted below.

Two Iowa police officers were found fatally shot in their squad cars at separated intersections near Des Moines early Wednesday morning. Police have identified Scott Michael Greene, 46, as the suspect they are hunting in the homicides.

“There is a clear and present danger to police officers right now,” Des Moines police sergeant Paul Parizek said.

Police discovered the first killing around 1:05 a.m. when someone reported shots fired. Responding officers found the body of an Urbandale police officer, still seated in his squad car, at an Urbandale intersection.

About 20 minutes later, officers who were responding to the first shooting found a second officer shot in his squad car about 2 miles away from the first incident. The officer, who belonged to the Des Moines Police Department, was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

“In all appearances it looks… that these officers were ambushed,” Parizek said. “It doesn’t look like there was any interaction between these officers and whoever the coward was that shot them while they sat in their cars.”
