The Redding Police Department is purchasing two portable security cameras to help protect property and prevent crime.
"We wanted to get those so we could use them for some of the high crime areas or troubled areas [where we’re] experiencing high volumes of theft and vandalism," Lt. Jeff Wallace said.
A $46,000 grant will pay for the two portable security pole cameras. RPD will be able to move the new cameras around for security in high-crime areas of the city or at special events.
"To be able to go back and look at DVRed footage and identify suspects or vehicles, that will really help us investigate crimes if they do occur," Wallace said.
The department is also getting new radios to help with interagency communication.
"You can switch over to different agencies, APD, the Sheriffs' department, and all our contingent counties. Like Trinity county Siskyou, " Wallace said.
The department is not yet sure when the cameras will be installed.
