Data Analyst Shares Which States Rank Highest and Lowest in Burglary Arrests

The 2017 FBI crime report shows that the worst state to be a burglar in is Delaware. The best? Nebraska.

A data analyst at ASecureLife researched the FBI crime reports for each state and compiled a list of the states that arrest the most burglars per burglary and which states arrest the least.

The three states that have the highest rate of burglary arrests are Delaware, Connecticut, and California. In 2017, Delaware made 950 arrests to their 3,970 burglaries, which brought them to a 24% arrest rate. Connecticut and California were tied right behind Delaware at 22%.

Nebraska, Illinois, and New Mexico had the lowest number of burglary arrests. Nebraska only made 53 burglary arrests out of the 6,472 burglaries that happened in the state this year. This brought the state to 1%. Illinois and New Mexico trailed behind respectively at 2% and 3%.

The study found that overall, the east coast has a higher rate of burglary arrests, but many burglary cases around the nation remain unsolved. This affects U.S. citizens quite a lot, as Americans had approximately $3.4 billion in property loss in 2017, with the highest state burglary property loss total being $5,525,338 in Texas.

ASecureLife also reported that the majority of burglaries happen during the day when people will most likely be away from their home. In addition, the most burglaries happen in the month of December.
