Securitas Joins AI Pact for Responsible AI Use

Securitas has joined the European Commissions’ AI Pact, to reinforce its commitment to ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI).

The AI Pact is a voluntary framework to prepare for compliance with the European Union’s AI Act, that regulates the use of AI systems based on their potential risk. The AI Act came into force in August 2024 and will be implemented in stages over the next three years.

“The AI Pact is an important step toward a safer future,” says Martin Althén, President, Securitas Digital. “By combining cutting-edge AI solutions with our highly skilled security professionals, we can set a new benchmark in security and inspire progress across the industry. As we continue integrating AI, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of privacy, safety, and ethical conduct.”

The EU AI Pact encourages participating organizations to voluntarily commit to three core actions: implementing an AI governance strategy to support AI adoption and prepare for compliance with the AI Act, mapping AI systems that may be classified as high-risk, and promoting AI literacy and awareness among staff to ensure ethical and responsible AI development. Establishing these practices enables organizations to build a strong foundation for ethical AI integration in their operations.

Already today, Securitas is transforming security with help of AI by enhancing threat detection, optimizing resource allocation, and unlocking strategic insights. AI analyzes data from surveillance and access control to identify anomalies and alert security teams, enabling proactive measures. Moreover, AI turns untapped data into actionable insights, optimizing energy use and space utilization. This level of AI integration requires clients to trust our Securitas’ commitment to transparency, security, and ethical implementation.

“Securitas’ own Responsible AI Framework highlights the importance of ethical and transparent use of AI in all operations”, says Hillevi Agranius, Chief Information Officer at Securitas. “By incorporating rigorous governance practices, it ensures that AI solutions not only comply with regulatory standards but also embody our core values of integrity, vigilance, and helpfulness”.

As an AI Pact signatory, Securitas will continue to lead the industry toward a future where technology and human expertise combine to create a safer world.

It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
