Fifteen were killed and 35 injured during a terrorist attack early Wednesday morning on New Year’s Day in New Orleans.
A driver of a Ford F-150 pickup, identified as 42-year-old Texas man and Army veteran Shamsud-Din,Jabbar, drove around bollards and through people celebrating the holiday on Bourbon Street in the city. The attack occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m.
He was killed during a firefight with police and was found to have an ISIS flag. IEDs were also found in the truck.
Later in the day, the FBI indicated that it didn’t believe the driver was working alone:
“We do not believe that Jabbar was solely responsible,” Alethea Duncan, FBI assistant special agent in charge, said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon. “We are aggressively running down every lead, including those of his known associates.”
The Sugar Bowl, originally scheduled to be played in the city on Wednesday, was postponed until Thursday.
