Napco Introduces New StarLink Signal Strength/Site Survey Tool

Napco Security Technologies Inc. is pleased to introduce the NAPCO StarLink SLE-MAX2-DEMO, a sophisticated but easy-to-use tool with its StarLink Max 2 Dual Sim Commercial Fire Communicators. It’s designed for two key purposes: performing site surveys or sales demos. First, it visually demonstrates the Communicator’s ability to switch between carriers quickly & second, it displays signal quality for both cell networks to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and more discerning potential customers.

This innovative, self-powered, battery-operated device features an intuitive display that allows users to view the active cellular carrier and its real-time signal quality metrics. It allows the fire dealer’s sales staff to demonstrate for the AHJ and potential subscribers, MAX2’s ability to quickly navigate the cellular networks and intelligently lock onto the optimal carrier. This transparency is often proven essential as it provides clear visibility into the system's current connectivity status and/or demos the supervised dual-cell carrier operation, particularly for Napco’s exclusive Super Dual™ plan, which enables fully redundant dual-carrier operation without requiring Ethernet/IP for UL Dual Path compliance. Additionally, the battery-powered design of the SLE-MAX2-DEMO enhances its portability, allowing commercial fire sales professionals to easily demonstrate its advantages to potential clients, even in diverse environments.

“At Napco, we are committed to providing professional labor-saving products that empower dealers with the sales tools they need to demonstrate the MAX2 benefits and close more life-safety sales. This signal tester demonstrates our responsiveness to our dealers’ needs and our dedication to continuous improvement,” says Stephen Spinelli, Senior Vice President of Sales, NAPCO Security Technologies.

Designed specifically for commercial fire, StarLink Fire MAX2 models stand out as the industry's only UL 864-listed and SOC 2-compliant dual-carrier commercial fire communicators, setting a new standard for reliability and safety in fire communication systems and cybersecurity. One of the standout capabilities of the MAX2 is its remarkable resilience during carrier service interruptions. The device is engineered to rapidly recover from such disruptions, seamlessly locking onto AT&T or Verizon to ensure continuous communication. This reliability is crucial for commercial fire applications, where every second counts in emergencies. With the SLE-MAX2-DEMO, sales professionals can effectively demonstrate the advanced features and unparalleled reliability of the MAX2, making it an invaluable asset in securing new subscribers and instilling confidence in fire safety solutions.

It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
