This webinar will discuss the importance of having a school plan in place to address severe bleeding injuries on school campuses and how you can implement the “Best Practices” determined by the American College of Surgeons Harford Consensus Report and the “Stop the Bleed” campaign, created immediately following the active shooter disaster at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, at your school.
No matter how quickly emergency responders arrive to your campus, it is bystanders that will always be the first on the scene. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes; therefore, it is important to quickly stop blood loss. All school staff should be trained beyond basic first aid and CPR and comply with the Department of Homeland Security’s “Stop the Bleed” campaign and pre-stage hemorrhage control devices in your school facilities for emergencies, increasing the odds of survival in a critical incident and limiting your liability.
