Exploring Multiple Facets of Campus Security Summit

Campus security is more than just technology like cameras and door locks. In our Campus Security Today Virtual Summit on Thursday, March 21, we will offer two unique sessions about different sides of campus security. In our first session, we will explore how real connections with students and creating a positive environment is key to help preventing violence. In our second session, we will discuss some lessons learned from the 2017 shooting at North Park Elementary in San Bernardino, California.

Here are some takeaways from both of our sessions:

  • Understand effective leadership under crisis
  • Extracting actionable insight for future campus security preparedness
  • How to understand behaviors and creating a space for positive human interventions

Connections Over Gadgets Are Key to Preventing School Violence Session

Real solutions to violence in schools don't stop at door locks, cameras, and metal detectors – they’re found in relationships. In schools with positive environments where students feel connected to their peers, staff see less violence. Research shows the most effective prevention methods are powered by understanding behaviors and creating a space for positive human interventions. In this session, you will hear from school safety expert, Jason Russell, President & Founder at Secure Environment Consultants, along with Kentwood Public Schools Superintendent, Kevin Polston, about how to cultivate connections and foster a positive school environment. Participants will leave with actionable best practices and the tools they need for ongoing implementation and support.
