Medeco Introduces Hybrid RFID Technologies

Breaking the traditional gap between protection and practicality, Medeco Security Locks recently announced the launch of two products to allow mechanical masterkey and electronic access control systems to be merged for absolute flexibility, security and convenience.

The product innovations also significantly reduce installation costs (compared to common electronic access control systems), and provide security dealers with solutions that apply to virtually any size end-user.

Medeco’s new Hybrid™ platform consists of dual technology RFID keys and cylinders, which work together to leverage the flexibility of electronics and the physical protection of mechanics. The Hybrid Cylinder, which requires no wiring or related hardware, provides end-users the functionality of EAC without costly or specialized installation requirements. In common applications, end users can utilize mechanical masterkey systems on doors that require either absolute security or that don’t require access schedules or audit trails, and Hybrid Cylinders on doors that require audit trails, schedules, and the ability to quickly and easily add or delete a key from the system.

Hybrid Cylinders are available in common Rim and Mortise formats and simply replace an existing cylinder. The Hybrid Cylinder leverages existing standard commercial hardware and no door modifications are necessary.

The Hybrid™ Key allows users to access any system configuration—pure mechanical, pure electronic, or Hybrid Cylinder—with a single credential. Working independently, the RFID technology in the head of the key operates common card readers. The high security mechanical blade of the key is for doors that require security, but not necessarily the flexibility of electronic access control. The key blade and the RFID head are both used to operate the Hybrid Cylinder. The Hybrid Key is available in several configurations and the unique upgradeable head design allows system managers to upgrade or downgrade the credential as needs require.

“The Hybrid platform provides end-users and integrators flexibility and control like never before,” said Joseph Kingma, Medeco director of business development. “In a matter of minutes, a door can be retrofitted with offline access control—using existing hardware—and be completely integrated into most existing systems at less cost and greater convenience.”

Hybrid Keys and Hybrid Cylinders are available in either HID compatible 125 kHz proximity or 13.56 MHz iClass technologies and are available from authorized Medeco dealers, system integrators and select security consultants.

  • A8V MIND

    A8V MIND

Hexagon’s Geosystems presents a portable version of its Accur8vision detection system. A rugged all-in-one solution, the A8V MIND (Mobile Intrusion Detection) is designed to provide flexible protection of critical outdoor infrastructure and objects. Hexagon’s Accur8vision is a volumetric detection system that employs LiDAR technology to safeguard entire areas. Whenever it detects movement in a specified zone, it automatically differentiates a threat from a nonthreat, and immediately notifies security staff if necessary. Person detection is carried out within a radius of 80 meters from this device. Connected remotely via a portable computer device, it enables remote surveillance and does not depend on security staff patrolling the area.
