Vegas On My Mind

I was an ISC West newbie this year -- it was my first time attending the show, and I can sum up my experience with one word: amazing. Everywhere I looked, new and innovative products raised the bar, I networked with some of the industry’s finest and even caught a glimpse of a few celebrities at the show (Paul Teutul, Sr., Chuck Liddell and Miss Hawaiian Tropic 2008). The fun didn’t stop after the show either. Let me tell you, ISC West exhibitors certainly know how to entertain -- special thanks to Dedicated Micros and 3VR! Eleven of us were at the show this year and the numbers of hosted parties we were invited to still outnumbered us.

One of the stand-out companies I met with was Sarnoff. Fred Lardaro, executive director of sales, and his colleague Orion White, showed me their latest advancements in biometric and surveillance products. Sarnoff provides advanced real-time video processing and high-performance imaging solutions for defense and security applications.

The Acadia® Series of Video Processors uses proprietary technology to create hardware and software solutions with real-time functions such as video enhancement, stabilization, fusion, mosaicking and tracking. Acadia processes video streams to create clear, usable images.

The TerraSight™ Standard Ground Station (SGS) for air and ground persistent surveillance is a video exploitation solution that supports situational awareness, targeting, mission planning, image analysis and forensic reconstruction using full motion video. It addresses the emerging need for air and ground video surveillance exploitation by using real-time video from a variety of manned and unmanned aerial or ground sensors.

The Iris on the Move® biometric system designed for secure access control is non-invasive and safe. The technology can process up to 30 people per minute and captures an iris image at a distance while the subject is in motion.

Products like these are a must-see and being able to view demos and the products up-close are an invaluable experience. With the current pace of technology, one thing is certain -- a year is enough to change the game even more.

I’m already looking forward to ISC West 2010!
