Dell Closes SecureWorks Acquisition

Dell announced that it has closed its acquisition of SecureWorks Inc., a provider of information security services and expanding Dell’s IT-as-a-service offerings.

SecureWorks processes more than 13 billion security events and sees more than 30,000 malware specimens each day. The company protects more than 3,000 customers worldwide, including more than 1,500 banks and credit unions as managed security services clients. SecureWorks is protecting trillions of dollars in financial assets. Its reliability, capability and focus on client service have earned the company a best-in-class customer satisfaction rating from its global client base, and SecureWorks has been recognized by SC Magazine's readers with the "Best Managed Security Service" award four years in row (2006 – 2009).

In a report published Nov. 29, 2010, Gartner Inc. positioned SecureWorks in the Leaders quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for MSSPs (Managed Security Services Providers), North America.” In addition, Gartner recently evaluated the pending Dell acquisition of SecureWorks.

An analysis by independent research firm, Forrester Research Inc. in the Jan. 6 blog by Khalid Kark titled, “Dell To Acquire SecureWorks” said the acquisition will benefit Dell customers by allowing them to obtain security services from a trusted partner, while SecureWorks clients will have access to the financial scale and resources of a Fortune-50 player.

“SecureWorks will be the foundational platform for Dell’s security solutions,” said Steve Schuckenbrock, president of Dell Services. “Thousands of customers already entrust SecureWorks with mission-critical data resources.  Dell looks forward to bringing these solutions to customers around the world.”

My first security trade show was in 2021. At the time, I was awed by the sheer magnitude of the event and the spectacle of products on display. But this was the first major trade show coming out of the pandemic, and the only commentary I heard was how low the attendance was. Two representatives from one booth even spent the last morning playing catch in the aisle with their giveaway stress balls. Read Now
