NRPA Announces Support For Current CFATS Program

Charles T. Drevna, president of NPRA, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, issued the following statement on the recent markup hearing of the Full Implementation of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards Act (H.R. 908) by the Subcommittee on the Environment and the Economy of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

"Today's markup hearing is an important first step in making the current Chemical Facility Anti- Terrorism Standards program permanent. A long term extension of the current program provides chemical manufacturers and refiners with the regulatory certainty required to help them keep our country safe from terrorist attacks and significantly strengthens our national security without causing job losses.

"The current program's risk-based performance standards strengthen our nation's critical infrastructure. Significantly altering the program could greatly risk the high level of security that has been established at chemical facilities and should not be considered."
