NAV Awarded Security and Surveillance Service Contract for Denver Light Rail

North American Video (NAV) has been awarded a long term contract to service all camera, access control, alarm and e-phone systems for Colorado’s Regional Transportation District (RTD) Light Rail system. The system currently has over 1,100 cameras and 150 card access doors with numerous expansion projects in the works.

“The award of this service contract is testimony to the high quality technical expertise that the NAV team has provided to RTD on integration projects over the last two years” said Jason Oakley, CEO of NAV. “Our team is committed to supporting RTD in their the goal of a providing a safe and secure light rail system for passengers and staff.”

As part of the contract NAV will station NAV personnel on-site to handle all service items that arise on any of RTD’s light rail locations. The NAV contract calls for an increase in staff in 2012 to handle the new West Corridor. RTD’s light rail system, servicing the central, southwest and southeast Denver metro areas, has five light rail lines with 37 stations. Next year, 14 more stations will be added to the system.

NAV continues to grow its service portfolio annually with the steady addition of new contracts. The company’s previous work with the RTD entailed a reconfiguring of the existing video surveillance system from analog to a hybrid digital solution including implementation of a head-end digital matrix and integration to the regional command center. The project also called for installation of 170 new cameras at 18 transit station platforms; and switching of all transit station platforms to digital.

Encompassing all or part of eight counties, the District covers over 2,300 square miles and the RTD’s services include a variety of transportation services including bus, light rail, para-transit and park-n-ride facilities.
