IP Forwarding Service for Alarm Industry at ISC West

It was quite clear at this year’s ISC West that the security industry continues to gravitate toward online functionality and mobile applications. Well, the alarm industry is no different. A new affordable IP forwarding service caught the attention of Security Products Magazine’ Online Sales Director at the conference because of its innovation that I’m sure more industry insiders will be whispering about in the near future.

Keep Your IP (KYI), designed in Irvine, Calif., has produced an Internet data forwarding service designed just for the alarm industry.

Davin Roos, president of KYI, spoke with our team about how the tool can help promote competition among central stations as well as an IP disaster recovery support service.

According to Ross, Internet-based alarm systems are expected to be the next growth burst of the industry for years to come. These feature rich systems no longer rely on the old 800 dial-up "thru the phone line" telecommunications method and instead send their alert signals through an Internet Protocol (IP) connection reaching the central stations site immediately either by wires or wirelessly via cellular data.

Just like toll-free number portability made it possible for alarm dealers with telco based panels to quickly change central station providers, the Keep Your IP technology makes it possible for dealers that have switched to the new IP based panels to do the same quickly and effortlessly.

The switch can reduce the time and effort needed to send out personnel to make these changes at a customer’s site.

“Think of it as number portability for IP-based alarm panels,” Roos said.

By providing the alarm professional with their own secure IPV4 numbered address, data is secure as business needs merge into the new IP-based landscape. Alarm dealers can start by simply going online and ordering their own unique private IP address.

Well see how soon industry pros adopt the new KYI innovation, but some folks here at Security Products Magazine think it will definitely be well-received.
