Stream Data Centers Breaks Ground on Private Data Center in Houston

Stream Data Centers, a data center developer specializing in secure, independent, highly efficient Private Data Centers for corporate users, has started construction of a fully-commissioned Private Data Center development in The Woodlands, Texas, a master-planned community 35 miles north of downtown Houston.

The Stream Private Data Center is a ground-up, purpose-built data center development totaling 73,320 square feet, built according to Miami-Dade County Building Code Standards to withstand 146-mph winds and uplift. Additionally, Stream will utilize accredited construction and design practices required to achieve LEED Gold Certification.

"As the Houston economy continues to grow, we see continued growth in data center demand from corporate users," said Rob Kennedy, co-managing partner of Stream Data Centers. "The Stream Private Data Center in The Woodlands offers corporate users a wholesale data center option located within a master-planned setting."

This is Stream's fifth data center development in Texas in the last four years. The Woodlands has attracted major corporate facilities from companies such as Anadarko, FOX Sports, McKesson Specialty Health and Aon Hewitt Associates, and is three miles north of ExxonMobil's new Houston campus. In addition to a robust power and fiber infrastructure, The Woodlands provides strict zoning and a controlled environment with no proximity to industrial uses, rail lines or flight paths. The location is outside of the 500-year floodplain and more than 75 miles from the Gulf Coast.

"The Woodlands has grown significantly from corporate expansions and relocations in recent years," said Gil Staley of the Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership. "Stream Data Centers' new Private Data Center development will give these companies a purpose-built option in which to house their growing IT infrastructure locally."

The Stream Private Data Center delivers 3.375 MW of critical load with the ability to easily expand to 6.75 MW across 30,000 square feet of raised floor with all necessary conduit and pads in place. Stream utilizes a 2N electrical / N+1 mechanical configuration and provides dual-feed power from two separate substations. The carrier-neutral facility is served by multiple fiber providers through diverse, private fiber conduits.

The building can be controlled by a single tenant or divided into three fully-independent Private Data Center Suites. Each Private Data Center Suite houses a private 10,000-square-foot raised-floor data hall, private disaster recovery office space, redundant private telecommunications rooms, a private utility yard, and delivers 1,125 KW of 2N critical load that is expandable and supported by independent power and cooling infrastructure.

The Houston market is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country with the world's highest concentration of energy companies, and hosts robust healthcare and aeronautical industries.

The Stream Private Data Center facility will be fully-commissioned and ready for occupancy April 1, 2013. Stream recently completed a  Private Data Center in the Dallas Market and is active in Denver and San Antonio.
