It’s the most wonderful time of the year – and a prime time for wannabe thieves and burglars to strike as well

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – and a prime time for wannabe thieves and burglars to strike as well. When scrambling to fit in your holiday shopping amidst busy days and jam-packed schedules, there are a few important safety tips to keep in mind.

When it comes to any type of shopping, it is best to avoid carrying large amounts of cash on you. This just makes you an easy target. If you are carrying cash, keep it in your front pocket to avoid any potential pick pockets. Many experts advise to pay with a credit card, debit card, or check, as this will keep an automatic record of all your purchases. Remember to notify your credit card company immediately if your card has been lost or stolen. If you’re carrying a wallet or purse, keep them close to you and be sure to know where they are at all times. Don’t leave them in public places unattended, and don’t leave your purse open when you’re walking or shopping. Keep your license or photo ID on you at all times to confirm credit card purchases – offering an extra step in security should your card be stolen. And as always, be leery of any strangers that approach you, even if it appears they have good intentions.

By remembering these simply safety tips, your holiday shopping can be something to look forward to, not something to fear.
