DVTEL Safeguards Patients and Staff at Childrens Mercy Hospitals and Clinics

DVTEL Inc., IP video surveillance technology pioneer, today announced the Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City, Mo., have deployed a comprehensive DVTEL IP video surveillance system throughout its 350-bed facility. The high-definition, Quasar cameras and Latitude VMS improve the protection of patients, secure high-risk areas and future-proof security investments.

Approximately 14,000 visitors enter the hospital each week, making safety a top priority. The hospital employs a staff of more than 100 security officers, along with a 415-camera, video surveillance system to support internal, security policies.

The DVTEL Quasar cameras augment the skills of the hospital’s highly-trained security officers in swiftly handling incidents, locating lost patients and ensuring the safety and protection of its infrastructure.

“The value of our security system is proven because families feel safe and secure,” said Dan Arnett, assistant director of security and transportation at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. “We wanted to transition to IP. We also wanted any technology we implemented to be based on open standards to allow us to choose what would work best in our environment. Finally, we wanted the system to be scalable so it can be adapted as our environment changes.”

The Quasar camera line is a comprehensive suite of HD, broadcast-quality cameras supported by DVTEL’s Latitude NVMS. Quasar is the first IP surveillance device to implement the MPEG-recommended, motion compensation standard to utilize higher H.264 compression profiles, culminating in lower bandwidth and less storage, without dropping frame rates.

“The improved, HD image quality of the new DVTEL camera solution adds another layer to the hospital’s security program and helps ensure patients, staff and families stay safe, which is its number one priority,” said Gene Tiebout, service manager of CI3 Integrators, the integration firm on the project.

“Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics’ deployment of this comprehensive, DVTEL solution is a great representation of the unique application possibilities of our technologies,” said Ed Wassall, vice president, global marketing and hardware product, DVTEL.
