WOW! What a Tradeshow

Two guys from Germany walk into ISC West and say, "This isn't such a great tradeshow." The same two guys from Germany have never been to ISC West and the punch line is that the tradeshow exhibits and traffic have actually come back to the booming business of yesteryear.

Well, my two friends, ISC West 2013 was incredible and a treasure trove of new products, upgraded technology and well-informed visitors.

More than 1,000 exhibitors plied their wares to hosts of visitors. There were waves of attendees from the front door to the back of the hall, which is where our booth was located.

At Security Products, we're pleased to publish the winners of the SIA Showcase Awards, and thank the Security Industry Association for providing us with the winners and the high resolution images as quickly as possible. The winners and their products will be published in our May issue.

One last interesting product from ISC West. I visited with staff of Aiphone and saw the new master station for offices. Control access will identify visitors and determine their intent before unlocking a door. This gives faculty an efficient way to communicate with classrooms and other offices. School staff can use existing PA system to page, make general announcements or broadcast emergencies throughout buildings.

Thanks again for a great ISC West 2013 experience. We will all gather again in a few months in Chicago for ASIS 2013. As for the two guys from Germany, Americans in the security industry work hard and play hard. Yes, my friends, it was an excellent show.

Hexagon’s Accur8vision is a volumetric detection system that employs LiDAR technology to safeguard entire areas. Whenever it detects movement in a specified zone, it automatically differentiates a threat from a nonthreat, and immediately notifies security staff if necessary. Person detection is carried out within a radius of 80 meters from this device. Connected remotely via a portable computer device, it enables remote surveillance and does not depend on security staff patrolling the area.
