Genetec Offers Limited-Time Smart Analog Package

Genetec, a provider of unified IP security systems today announced the "Smart Analog Package" designed to provide analog users with the simplest path to access the greater flexibility and capabilities available with an IP-based video surveillance system, while still protecting their investment in analog cameras and infrastructure. As analog users look to upgrade to more capable and versatile IP-based video surveillance systems, many still have a sizable investment in analog devices that are not at the end of their usefulness. To help manage this transition, the Smart Analog Package has been created to enable users to choose from the industry's most affordable video encoders that will allow them to preserve their existing analog video equipment, while giving them access to Genetec's industry leading video management software (VMS).

The package will be broadly available to all Genetec Certified channel partners through Ingram Micro for a limited time, with orders accepted the first week of October, and ending March 31st, 2014.The promotion will initially be introduced to the United States and Canadian markets at $2,090 via a special bundle that includes Genetec's latest Security Center 5.2 platform with 1-year software support and maintenance, and the VIP X16 XF E—a 16-channel video encoder that provides excellent image quality while minimizing bandwidth and storage requirements—from Bosch Security Systems, Inc.

"With this affordable package, analog installations can further reduce the cost and ease the path to a network based solution. Joining with our strategic partner Bosch enables us to provide users with the tools to maintain, manage, and eventually transition existing equipment that can still provide a useful lifespan. The advantages of this combined solution are multifold: not only can a company reduce the cost of transitioning to IP, they also reap the benefits of our enterprise-class video platform that will provide open support for a wide range of IP cameras and integrate to other key security and business systems," says Guy Chnard, VP Sales at Genetec.

"Working with Genetec on this initiative helps bring high-performance, cost-effective Bosch encoder technology to the many organizations that can benefit from the advanced functionality that an IP-based surveillance system delivers," said Jeremy Hockham, President of Sales -Americas, Bosch Security Systems, Inc. "We have been partners with Genetec for years and together can offer new opportunities for easy-to-implement solutions that will move the market forward in this video technology migration."

  • The Evolution of IP Camera Intelligence

As the 30th anniversary of the IP camera approaches in 2026, it is worth reflecting on how far we have come. The first network camera, launched in 1996, delivered one frame every 17 seconds—not impressive by today’s standards, but groundbreaking at the time. It did something that no analog system could: transmit video over a standard IP network. Read Now

  • From Surveillance to Intelligence

Years ago, it would have been significantly more expensive to run an analytic like that — requiring a custom-built solution with burdensome infrastructure demands — but modern edge devices have made it accessible to everyone. It also saves time, which is a critical factor if a missing child is involved. Video compression technology has played a critical role as well. Over the years, significant advancements have been made in video coding standards — including H.263, MPEG formats, and H.264—alongside compression optimization technologies developed by IP video manufacturers to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The open-source AV1 codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media—a consortium including Google, Netflix, Microsoft, Amazon and others — is already the preferred decoder for cloud-based applications, and is quickly becoming the standard for video compression of all types.
