Re-opened in 2011 after extensive modernization and the addition of a contrasting extension designed by US architect Daniel Libeskind, it is one of the three largest museums in Germany and the most up-to-date military history museum in Europe. The original armory building, dating from 1877, is now ‘cut through’ by a stark, modern, wedge-shaped addition intended to symbolize Germany’s eventful military history.
