Phoenix Sky Harbor Modernizes Airport Security with SAFE for Aviation

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has launched Quantum Secure’s SAFE for Aviation software to provide a modern approach to the required processes surrounding vetting and badging airport Phoenix Sky Harbor Modernizes Airport Security with SAFE for Aviationworkers. Phoenix Sky Harbor set a goal to eliminate paper-based processes and use technology to streamline the management of the over 20,000 worker identities at their airport. By implementing SAFE for Aviation at the airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor has met their goals of maintaining a comprehensive security credential management solution to function as an Operations Security Portal, eliminating inefficiencies and reducing the time it takes get airport staff on the job.

With more than 100,000 passengers per day, Phoenix Sky Harbor is one of the busiest airports in the United States. With the anticipated growth of the airport and the industry in general, Phoenix Sky Harbor is taking a modern approach to preparing for the coming years through modernization and implementation of the latest technology to manage various aspects of the airport. This translates to more jobs at the airport and more importance on securely vetting those workers without significant operational cost increases.

“Every airport must appropriately vet and maintain a record of every single worker at the facility, and these records must be monitored to ensure people have the correct access privileges to do their jobs,” said Ajay Jain, CEO, Quantum Secure. “To ensure correct authority for each identity at all times, there must be a policy engine that enables automatic change across all access control and other physical security systems each time there is a change.”

Partnering with Honeywell International, Quantum Secure delivered the SAFE for Aviation software solution that enabled Phoenix Sky Harbor to leverage their existing infrastructure investments and provide a future proof environment that can continue to adapt to the inevitable change inherent in this industry. The phased deployment was carried out over the course of a year and has been in production since Fall 2013.

“The SAFE for Aviation Solution is the leading edge airport identity management software available in the market today,” said VP of Aviation Development at Quantum Secure, Andy Kuchel. “Quantum’s new aviation-related applications modules, like Privilege & Financial Manager, have helped our security operations become further streamlined and accountable.”

The results have benefited both the airport and the companies within the airport. Faster badge issuance, fewer trips to the airport, more visibility into the process and clearly defined next steps are all part of a new set of paperless and more secure means to save time and money. Phoenix Sky Harbor is an example of how intelligent technologies can make our airports more efficient and secure.
