Security Guard Shoots Knife-wielding Man at Mental Health Home

A 42-year-old man was shot on the East Side of Cleveland

A 42-year-old man was shot by a security guard at a mental health group home on the city’s East Side late Sunday afternoon, according to a report. Cleveland police said a security guard working for a private company was stationed at the Tanaka House in the 8100 block of St. Clair Avenue Sunday.

The man, who court records show lived in the group house operated by Murtis Taylor Human Services System, charged at the security guard with a knife, police said. The guard fired one shot into the man’s stomach.

The man was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, and was listed in critical condition Monday morning. According to police, the security guard was not an off-duty Cleveland police officer.
