National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence Looks to Israel for AdviceThe deputy director of the US National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), Nathan Lesser, was recently seen attending a conference in Israel, according to a story.

The agency is a division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology within the US Department of Commerce dating back to working on railroad technology. Overtime it has become a standard setter for all government non-national security-related systems as well as an organization that covers much of the US’s critical infrastructure.

Specifically, the NCCoE focuses on making standards more user-friendly and making technology friendlier to complying with standards. The standards set are enforced by the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Management and Budget across the non-national security groups of the government.

Lesser was in Israel to see how the US could benefit from the nation’s expertise in cyber practices.

“Israel is using many of the new standards in cyber security,” he said. “It is not bad to look outside your own borders for cutting edge ideas.”
